Acupuncture and Infertility

It is estimated that one in seven couples have problems conceiving worldwide and this ratio is similar across most countries, independent of the country’s level of development.

Acupuncture and herbs have proven to be very effective as an alternative or a complementary method to western methods such as In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), which can costs tens of thousands of dollars, for treating infertility. Why acupuncture works for infertility problems is still debatable; although the conventional theory is that acupuncture helps regulate blood flow to the reproductive organs and stabilizes hormone levels in the body’s system. This in turn results in increase ovarian function in women and increased sperm production in men.

A landmark German study from 2002 showed that women who underwent IVF and received acupuncture got pregnant at a 60% higher rate compared to women just undergoing IVF treatment*.
